Living and Working with an Abundance Mindset

What if we lived in a world where resources were not scarce?  I believe we do.  There are theories that pose as facts which claim our population is getting too large, our resources will run out, and we must take from the rich in order for the poor to have enough.  These are not facts. New resources are being created daily.  The rich can be rich, and the poor can gain wealth without taking away from the rich. The difference in these views is an abundance mindset versus a scarcity mindset.

In our lives how can we help promote an abundance mindset in ourselves and the people around us? Here are a few ideas:

We can encourage the attitude of abundance:  Figure out where you in the Abundance/Scarcity continuum, and work towards an abundance mindset.  Give out opportunity, recognition, and money generously (and wisely).  This will help the people around you shift to an abundance mindset if they live in a scarcity mindset.

John Maxwell says, "Leaders who allow a scarcity mindset to work its way into their culture pay a high price. When resources (money, opportunity, recognition) are perceived to be limited, paranoia, fear and politics thrive."

We can spend time with abundance-minded people.  A mentor of mine is one of the most generous people I know. She constantly encourages others, is giving away her time and resources lavishly, and she has impacted more people than most people I know.  She has also rubbed off on me. I will find myself doing something and can credit her influence in helping to create a generous mindset in my heart and mind.

We can look at the universe as an open-system: Our universe is expanding.  Resources are being discovered or created constantly.  Shift your thinking from a closed, resources are limited, mindset to seeing the world as an open system, where resources are available, and if they are not, we can create them.

Question for Reflection:

What is one area of your life today where you can shift more towards an abundance mindset? How?
