People, Our Greatest Asset

July 01, 20252 min read

“Too many people today know the price of everything and the value of nothing .” - Ann Landers

You’ve probably heard the axiom “People are your greatest asset”, a quote with variations attributed to many people. Do I truly believe this? Do you? Do we value people like we would value expensive items such as an Aston Martin, a private jet, or a priceless gem? Or getting down to it, do we value people above our time on a cell phone, time to get "things" done, or time watching a favorite show? When it comes down to anything we are doing, it is key to remember it is always about a person. If it’s not, what is the point?

There are so many issues in life.  It’s easy to get lost in the details and forget the importance of communicating value to each person involved in our lives.  How do we let people know they are valuable?

Here are a few ways I thought of where I try to show I am valuing those around me:

  • Learn the names of each and every person I interact with daily.

  • Acknowledge people as I walk through life.  A “Hello!” or a smile might be all they need to feel valued.

  • Encourage a person.  I want to take the time to notice what they do well, and let them know I’m noticing.

I want to treat each person I come into contact with as valuable.  I notice the people who treat me this way. The people we treat with kindness and respect will notice. Genuinely valuing others will expand your influence in a positive, uplifting way. Life will be sweeter for you, and it will probably help their lives feel a bit sweeter as well.

Questions for Reflection:

Who do you value the most?

Where do your actions need to line up with your beliefs?

Who needs to know you value them today?  How can you show this?
